先日、日本人が書いた英語を読んでいたら、child company という間違いを見付けました。これは、「子会社」を直訳したのだと思いますが、英語で「子会社」を表す時に使うのは subsidiary という単語です。
Louis Vuitton is a subsidiary of LVMH.
ルイ・ヴィトンはLVMHの子会社です。
Proctor and Gamble has hundreds of subsidiaries.
P&Gには何百もの子会社があります。
冒頭でも書いた通り child company は間違った英語ですが、「親会社」は parent company
を使います。
The parent company of Louis Vuitton is LVMH.
LVMHはルイ・ヴィトンの親会社です。
Proctor and Gamble is the parent company of many famous subsidiaries.
P&Gは、沢山の有名な子会社の親会社です。
「親会社」は直訳の parent company なのに、「子会社」は subsidiary なので日本人にとって間違えやすいのかもしれませんね。
余談ですが、日本人の友人は Proctor and Gamble という会社名を聞いて「何その会社」と言いましたが、P&Gと言ったら「おお！」となっていました。皆さんはP&Gが Proctor and Gamble の略称だと知っていましたか？

Is ‘core company’ also correct?
When I lanch a plan to establish the company,the event would be a process or an ccasion at first.
There would be marks the beginning of an event.
So,the parent company and it’s subsidiary are usually not established at the same time.
First of all,the company that could become the parent company would be established.
But,the company has not any subsidiary yet.
However,if I draw up a plan to establish also subsidiary in the future,it could be suitable to say that ‘ I expect my company could be core business company ‘ untill execute the plan for subsidiary.

This time as for annoying ‘ Japanese-English word’.
I know very talented Japanese translators and interpriters.
If someone translated that ‘subsidiaries’ are ‘child companies’ as a translator,I think the person is not a professional translator.And,it will not have been just because the person has never known that.Because,there are some people who are the believer or the maker of English as Japanese language under their intent.
Additionally,some other people spread those as Japanese-English word. But,of course,most of Japanese people don’t use that in real situation using English.
I don’t know why some part of people who are
using Japanese language want to spread their making word like ‘child companies’,the word
‘child’ or ‘kid’ may be becoming slang language for a committed socialist among them.’child’ should not be taken advance of its meaning that it ows naturally to any tools. Nevertheless,they just stand on the ground where is made of our ancestors who were not socialists.They were hard workers in the capitalist country with much
efforts.
Peace nowadays in Japan has been built of the
people who have no word ‘child’ to hide them into. And,real Japanese are the people’s real children who can stand for independence.It is Japanese true culture that parents can
acknowledge one’s children’s independence.
