When I read that Steve Jobs had died. I felt quite sad, as if a distant relative of mine had just died. I always looked forward to listening to his speeches. It was a joy to listen to his brilliant speaking skills. It was also exciting to see what new invention he had come up with.
Steve Jobs led an eventful life. He dropped out of college and worked at a factory until he had saved up enough money to travel around India. While in India, he became a Buddhist and a vegetarian. He experimented with LSD and came back to America in orange robes and a shaved head. He started Apple with his friend, Steve Wozniak. The company went on to revolutionize the personal computer.
In 1985, however, Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, the very company that he had created. Directors at Apple said he was too autocratic. Steve Jobs, however, went on to say that this was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He founded a company called Pixar. Perhaps you have seen some of its films. Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo were all made by Pixar.
When Steve Jobs went back to Apple, he changed the company’s fortunes. The company began to produce not only computers, but music players, phones and tablets. For a brief moment this year, Apple became the largest company in the world.
Technology will not change so quickly now that Steve Jobs is gone. It is hard to think of another person in the world who has his imagination and inventiveness. If he were to have lived for another ten years, I wonder what new inventions the world could have had.
